• The abstract must be written in English.
Maximum 300 words.
• It is the author’s responsibility to submit a correct abstract; any errors in spelling, grammar, or scientific fact will be published as typed by the author, if accepted.
• The title or text should not indicate the country of origin unless it is pertinent to the topic.
• Full presentation specification will be made available on the website and forwarded together with the abstract acceptance.
• Notification of acceptance/rejection of the abstracts will be emailed to the corresponding author by the End of September, 2020.
• All abstract presenters must pay the registration fee and are committed to deliver their presentation in an oral, mini-oral or video session as allocated by the Organising Committee.

The deadline for the early registration fee is the September 30th, 2020.

Abstract submission guidelines

  • Abstracts may be submitted via the online abstract submission platform that will be available from March 18th, 2020
  • Only abstracts with results will be accepted for review.
  • Abstracts must be received by the announced deadline. Abstracts received after the deadline will not be considered for review and presentation.
  • All abstracts must be submitted and presented in English with accurate grammar and spelling of a quality suitable for publication. It is the author’s responsibility to submit a correct abstract. Any errors in spelling, grammar or scientific fact will be reproduced as typed by the author.
  • The submission of an abstract carries with it the obligation that it is actually presented at the meeting by the author or by one of the co-authors (presenting author).
  • Presenting authors of abstracts must be registered participants.
  • The organisers reserve the right to remove from any publication an abstract that does not comply with the above.

Conflict of interest

Any abstract presenter must declare the existence of any relationship or arrangement, direct or indirect that could be reasonably considered to affect the content of their presentation. This includes, but is not limited to, factors such as financial relationships, advisory positions, receipt of payments, expenses, grants, or departmental support, up to 3 years before the abstract submission.

  Abstract title: Limited to 20 words
  Abstract text: Limited to 300 words (Tables and Figures not included)

Abstract topic: Abstracts must be allocated to a specific topic for the Scientific Programme. Please choose from the list of topics. Note: the scientific committee may allocate your presentation in another topic.

Tables, graphs and images: A maximum of 2 tables or 2 figures can be included per abstract.

Declaration of consent to publication and assignation of copyright

Ethical research declaration

All abstracts submitted must adhere to the Declaration of Helsinki’s ethical principles for medical research involving human subjects and the rules laid down by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors in their Recommendations for the conduct, reporting, editing, and publication of scholarly work in medical journals. This requires that all research (clinical or experimental in humans or animals) must have approval from a suitable Institutional Review Board, Independent Ethics Committee or Ethical Review Board. If this does not exist, the abstract will be rejected.

Review Process

The submitted abstracts will be peer-reviewed by international reviewers selected by the ESSR Scientific Committee. Each abstract will be reviewed by at least 3 reviewers.

The authors will be informed about acceptance/rejection of their abstract by e-mail by End of September 2020. All abstracts selected for presentation at the ESSR 2020 Congress will be published online.
